Councillor Eric Armstrong is the youngest son of the late William A Armstrong and was born in Northern Ireland and educated at Portora Royal School Enniskillen. He undertook further education in Bristol and moved to Bexhill via Ninfield twenty years ago. He has spent most of his working life being actively involved in education and has been a Deputy Head teacher and a Head teacher of special schools dealing with behavioural difficulties. He has also been the Principal of his own language school. He is still actively involved in education and finds his work as a councillor enriching for the students, as citizenship is now part of the National Curriculum.

Eric has played most sports (involving a ball), at a competitive league level and still enjoys, whenever possible, being a participant, rather than a spectator. However, Eric also enjoys a variety of performing arts and music and is always amazed at the wealth of talent both young and old in Bexhill - but in this case it is certainly as a spectator rather than as a participant. Humour, all food, travel, history and a love of the cinema all play a part in his life and he tries to live up to the saying: "the more you do, the more you can do".

Eric became a councillor in 2003 and has worked to develop new annual events and community celebrations within the town. He is a great believer in community and has been supported so far in all his ventures, by in particular the unsung heroes of 'The Old Town Preservation Society'. He relishes the opportunity to meet and greet many more people as Mayor of Bexhill, and hopes that his positive attitude towards the town will encourage many more to see why it's so worthwhile living here.

Eric has chosen as his charities for his term of office: 'The Bexhill Caring Community' which proactively supports both the young and old within the local community and St Peter's Church, one of the 100 most beautiful churches in England, which needs necessary restorative works. Eric hopes to raise both their profiles and hopefully with the generosity of local residents and businesses assist them further with their excellent community work, and in the case of St Peter's Church necessary restorative works.

Eric wants to support and represent Bexhill in every way possible and relishes the opportunity to be actively involved in the coming year. He hopes that as many people as possible will help in his year of office.
