Easter artisan show unlocks hidden gem

Behind the mighty oak gates in the centre of Battle lies the beautiful partial ruins and grounds of the Abbey and the outstanding Battle Abbey School.

For the first time this Easter Bank Holiday visitors to the English Heritage site will also have unprecedented access to the magnificent Abbots Hall and glorious Grade 1* listed Library as the school plays host to the inaugural Artisans at the Abbey fair.

The event will showcase fine handmade goods and original design from jewellery, ceramics, clothing, art and local specialist food and wine suppliers.

Outside there will also be plenty to see, with experts demonstrating a variety of Heritage and Traditional crafts, including wood turners, blacksmiths and sculptors.

Recognized worldwide as a pianist of virtuosity and poetic poise, Imogen Cooper has established a reputation as one of the finest interpreters of the classical repertoire.

Imogen Cooper has a widespread international career and has appeared with the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw, Leipzig Gewandhaus, London Symphony and NHK Symphony Orchestras. She has also undertaken tours with the Camerata Salzburg, Australian and Orpheus Chamber Orchestras. Imogen Cooper has played with all the major British orchestras and has particularly close relationships with the Royal Northern Sinfonia and Britten Sinfonia, play/directing. Her recital appearances have included New York, Tokyo, Paris, Vienna, Prague, London and the Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg.

Homecall Open Garden Cream Tea
Saturday 12th 1pm to 4pm 34 Glenleigh Park Road. Bexhill.
This year we are delighted to have 2 beautiful gardens opening on behalf of Homecall on the same day in order to raise much needed funds for our charity.
Our first garden to view is at 57 Barnhorn Road. This lovely garden is owned and cared for by two very keen gardeners who have described their garden as a ‘very pleasant large garden with a woodland walk to enjoy’, it is also a productive garden producing both fruit and vegetables.

Our main garden is an attractive and sizeable garden located at 34 Glenleigh Park Road. A Cream Tea which includes home-made scones with strawberries, jam and lashings of clotted cream will be served at this garden. There will also be a wide variety of stalls to browse.

Both gardens can be visited in any order on the day from 1pm.

Bexhill Lions Triathlon And Duathlon

Like running but not cycling, or the other way round? Then this is the event for you. The duathlon is the ideal way to share the challenge and the achievement with a pal as well as experiencing the buzz and excitement of the event.

Taster: 2km promenade run: 10km road cycle: 5km promenade run
A great way to start yourself off in the run-cycle-run events. The distances are achievable, along a flat route and you’ll be with other first-timers as well as those who are looking to improve on their PBs from previous events.

Classic: 4km promenade run: 40km road cycle: 10km promenade run
This event provides a realistic challenge for the more experienced athlete.

Swim Bike Run:

Sprint Distance: 750m sea swim: 20km road cycle: 5km promenade run

Standard Distance: 1500m sea swim: 40km road cycle: 10km promenade run

All events are ParaTri inclusive.We welcome athletes of all abilities with inclusive categories for those with special needs and for relay teams. So come along and take part. Get your first time or aim to improve on previous performances. Whichever it is, train to achieve your goals and thus inspire others. It's also a great way to raise money for local charities.
