Henning Wehn - Eins, Zwei, DIY
Saturday 11th 8pm De La Warr Pavilion. Bexhill.
After more than a decade in Britain, the German Comedy Ambassador has ‘groan’ to like puns.... though he still couldn't eat a whole one.

As Henning’s assimilation is not yet complete he hasn't lost his sense of Westphalian wonderment at the foibles of British society.

Why does everybody want to be owned by a house? What’s wrong with having the Euro? And why hold society and government responsible for personal underachievement? You’ve only got yourself to blame for not being born into a better social class.

Expect an evening-long crash course in personal accountability and have a right old laugh at the same time! Wunderbar!

Music’s Not Dead & DLWP Present Lisa Knapp
Sunday 12th 7pm De La Warr Pavilion. Bexhill.
The buzz continues to grow around Hidden Seam CD – Lisa Knapp’s critically acclaimed new album released in September 2013. With rave reviews, a cover feature in fRoots magazine and airplay on 6 Music, BBC Radio 3 as well as a Mark Radcliffe Folk Show live session, the long-awaited 2nd album see Lisa firmly re-established as one of the most creative and distinctive artists around.

Lisa emerged in 2007 with a remarkable debut Wild And Undaunted, with a radiant style of traditional folk and self-penned song, with fiddle, hammer dulcimer, strings, banjo and sonic delights from the technological age. Lisa was born and grew up in South London. Her musical development led her through drum and bass, teenage raves, acid house and an electric guitar bought to learn Jimi Hendrix songs. In her teens, she also came across folk music when she heard a friend’s parents record collection. She then found for herself the extraordinary voices and the vivid stories of Annie Briggs, Shirley Collins, Martin Carthy and Pentangle and she was hooked! In the intervening years, Lisa has established and evolved her own distinctive voice – absorbing a whole a range of influences and inspirations – and crafting a sound, and songwriting skill, at once beautiful, dramatic and adventurous.

“Songs that twist, turn and constantly surprise” **** 4 Stars The Guardian

“A masterful creation” ***** 5 Stars The Observer

‘Lisa Knapp pushes the boat out into new and uncharted waters.
Long may she sail’. **** 4 Stars Songlines

John Lydon In Conversation With Alexis Petridis
Sunday 12th 7.30pm De La Warr Pavilion. Bexhill.
Tickets (£24) include a free copy of ‘Anger is Energy’

John Lydon has secured prime position as one of the most recognizable icons in the annals of music history. As Johnny Rotten, he was the lead singer of the Sex Pistols - the world's most notorious band, who shot to fame in the mid-1970s with singles such as 'Anarchy in the UK' and 'God Save the Queen'. So revolutionary was his influence, he was even discussed in the Houses of Parliament, under the Traitors and Treasons Act, which still carries the death penalty. Via his music and invective he spearheaded a generation of young people across the world who were clamouring for change - and found it in the style and attitude of this most unlikely figurehead. With his next band, Public Image Ltd (PiL) Lydon expressed an equally urgent impulse in his make-up - the constant need to reinvent himself, to keep moving. From their beginnings in 1978 he set the groundbreaking template for a band that continues to challenge and thrive in the 2010s. He also found time for making innovative new dance records with the likes of Afrika Baambaata and Leftfield. Following the release of a solo record in 1997, John took a sabbatical from his music career into other media, most memorably his own Rotten TV show for VH1 and as the most outrageous contestant ever on I'm a Celebrity ...Get Me Out of Here! He then fronted the Megabugs series and one-off nature documentaries and even turned his hand to a series of much loved TV advertisements for Country Life butter. Lydon has remained a compelling and dynamic figure - both as a musician, and, thanks to his outspoken, controversial, yet always heartfelt and honest statements, as a cultural commentator. The book is a fresh and mature look back on a life full of incident from his beginnings as a sickly child of immigrant Irish parents who grew up in post-war London, to his present status as a vibrant, alternative national hero.

Johnny Marr Plus Special Guests
Wednesday 15th 7pm De La Warr Pavilion. Bexhill.
English musician, singer, and songwriter Johnny Marr comes to De La Warr Pavilion. He was co-songwriter – with Morrissey – and guitarist of The Smiths between 1982–87, an English Rock band formed in Manchester. Critics have called them the most important alternative rock band to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s. Q magazine's Simon Goddard argued in 2007 that The Smiths were "the most influential British guitar group of the decade" and the "first indie outsiders to achieve mainstream success on their own terms". The NME named the Smiths the "most influential artist ever" in a 2002 poll, even topping the Beatles.

Marr has also been a member of Electronic, The The, Modest Mouse and The Cribs, as well as a prolific session musician. In 2013, he released a solo album titled The Messenger (2013).

In 2013, the NME honoured Marr with its Godlike Genius award, hailing Marr as "not content with rewriting the history of music with one of the world's greatest ever bands, The Smiths, he's continued to push boundaries and evolve throughout his career, working with some of the best and most exciting artists on the planet." He was voted the fourth best guitarist of the last 30 years in a poll conducted by the BBC in 2010. Phil Alexander, Editor-in-Chief of Mojo, has described Marr as "arguably Britain's last great guitar stylist".

British Sea Power's 'Sea Of Brass'
Friday 24th 7pm De La Warr Pavilion. Bexhill.
With the Redbridge Brass Band.

After working with musical arranger Peter Wraight (Matthew Herbert Big Band), the chart-topping indie rock band British Sea Power will be touring UK venues performing their favourite songs from a ten year back catalogue in collaboration with championship brass bands from across the country.

British Sea Power are a six-piece band originating from Cumbria, Yorkshire, Ealing and Shropshire who have released seven albums since 2003 and are currently the longest-serving band/artist signed to Rough Trade Records. Their track Remember Me was voted number 9 in the most important hundred tracks of BBC6 Music’s lifetime by the station’s listeners and have enjoyed an array of muscial endorsements from the likes of David Bowie, Jarvis Cocker, Radiohead and Flaming Lips.

Redbridge Brass Ensemble formed started competing in 1970. They formed out of the Redbridge Music School and entered the top level Championship Section in 1986 where it has remained ever since. In 2008 Redbridge made its Glastonbury debut performed live on stage with ‘Hot Chip’ in front of 40,000 people.

This is the first time British Sea Power have entered a music collaboration with another performing group and this project has been two years in the making already. BSP are known for their sell-out rock performances as much as they are for their sensitive film scorings, including the recent ‘From the Sea to the Land Beyond’ which has now been released by Rough Trade as British Sea Power’s seventh LP and was voted Guardian’s album of the week in December 2013.

Bexhill Museum Lecture: ‘Edward Wadsworth, Painter From The Slade To The De La Warr Pavillion’
Wednesday 26th 2.30pm St Augustine’s Church Hall, St Augustine’s Close. Bexhill.
Edward Wadsworth, a contemporary of Stanley Spencer at the Slade School of Art, was a staunch modernist, contributor to the war effort with his vorticist camouflage ‘dazzle’ ships and, after 1918, a supporter of the British and European avant-garde alongside Ben Nicholson. In 1936 Serge Chermayeff commissioned him to design a mural for the De La war Pavilion; influenced by his love of the sea, it also reflected his interest in surrealism. Shifting between figurative and abstract painting, Wadsworth’s career is a fascinating story of the traditional and the original.
