The Mayor of Bexhill 2005

Councillor Mrs Joyce Hughes Town Mayor 2005/06
Councillor Joy Hughes was born in the East End of London and moved to Bexhill over 30 years ago. From a busy working life in Insurance in the City, it was a complete change to become one of the Longley Brothers Department store family of staff. Many happy years were spent as a buyer for the store and very many friends were made in the Town. Joy has a great love of the Performing Arts and is enjoying being part of the De La Warr Pavilion refurbishment. It will be one of the highlights of the year to see the re-opening of this worldwide renowned building. |
|
Joy's hobbies are more passive than athletic being a fan of all things theatrical - a night
at the theatre to see a play, a musical or a ballet is truly the way to relax. A keen
interest in Art, Good Food and Sport (non-participating!) means that Joy is glad to get out
and meet people, old and young in every possible venue.
Joy became a Councillor following in her mother's footsteps in London, to serve all the community. So it is with enormous pride and pleasure that she looks forward to all the civic duties that come as Mayor of Bexhill, and hopes to meet and talk with as many residents as possible. It is always difficult to choose a charity from all the many deserving voluntary organisations that are worthy of extra help but Joy has chosen the Alzheimer's Society, the one closest to her heart, as her dearly loved father died 10 years ago from this awful illness. |

Donations for this excellent cause may be sent to The Mayor's Charities, Town Hall,

Joy is looking forward to representing Bexhill in every way possible with the residents' help and support. |
