Councillor Patrick Rene Douart is a man for all seasons. He has turned his hand from combatant to supplicant; from orator to listener; from social believer to a much needed achiever.

While Patrick was educated both in France and the UK his choice of working for Merril Lynch as a Commodity Broker led to his international experience in negotiation and to a mature approach to dealing with people. This was augmented by his involvement with Allied Intelligence Services. In fact, Patrick is currently President of the UK Association.

Patrick has lived in England for 39 years. He and his wife Maureen have lived in Bexhill for the past 17 years. During this time they have both proved to be not only dedicated, but under-stated carers for adults with a learning disability. From the socially disaffected, to those who have simply lost their way in life, they have extended a typically warm caring hand.

These efforts have in no way detracted from Patrick's interest in politics, an interest that can be traced some years ago when he was elected Rother District Councillor for the St Mark's Ward.

Patrick's ready wit and open nature have added to his popularity. This has allowed him, in turn, to be instrumental in much needed local changes.

During his year in office, Patrick intends to establish ties with a suitably appropriate French Town in the wine growing area of Bordeaux, where some of his family live. He has already met with the Mayor who has expressed a firm interest in the idea.

Patrick's designated charity is the very deserving 9th Bexhill Scout Group, for the principles that they hold dear and seek to uphold and that can reflect those principles he espoused during his military career.
