Big Cats Panther/Puma

I was cycling along Turkey Road near the quarry. About 6pm last saturday after going out on a bike ride. When this black creature crossed my path it was black and had a long thin tail like a panther and a big black body as it ran across the road and made me brake hard. I thought i was seeing things and thought what was that. I rode home faster than ever!
Has anyone witnessed any of these encounters??? If so please tell me as im very interested in finding out im not the only one.

Hello Steven - No, you are not the only one to have encountered this animal. I have seen it myself on a couple of occasions, perhaps 2 or 3 years ago now (or maybe further back). The first time I recall seeing it was from a bedroom window in Beatrice Walk, off Gunters Lane; it was on the footpath that runs alongside. I saw it again a few days later near to the entrance of Bexhill Cemetery in Turkey Road, when I was driving westbound. Both sightings were at dusk. I think I'm correct in remembering that there was a newspaper article about it in the Bexhill Observer because it was witnessed by others in the community. It may be worth trying to track down the article. I hope this proves useful to you.

Hello Steven,

If you go on to the internet and type in ‘Bexhill Observer - Mystery Sighting in Cooden’ you will see an article dated 02nd January 2008 and updated 07th June 2018. It refers to a Joyce Prichard “wondering if any one else has spotted this mysterious creature”. Following her second sighting, a few days later, she apparently reported the incident to the police who said they were aware of sightings further inland but not near the coast. It’s an interesting article. I hope you manage to find it. Best wishes. Maria.
