Hello Holly,
I'm 23, I've been here for 2 years (though on and off 2 years prior to 2008), and still I feel like a fish out of water. I'm finding I have the same problem: where is it that Bexhill's young adult population go to socialise, exactly? The De La Warr Pavilion seems to be trying to tout itself as some sort of place for the young population of Bexhill, but really you have to have the acquired cultural taste for modern art to fully appreciate it. And of course, I don't meet anyone at all when I decide to take a country bike ride for some photography! |

Try a few churches? The Living Word is lively and very loud. Beulah Baptist and Sidley Baptist. 8 Anglican - the best being St Mark's, Little Common. 3 Methodist, the best being Christchurch. 3 Roman Catholic, I don't seem to be able to break into these, but the best is Our Lady of the Rosary. Then there's St Paul's Free church, Peter Gadsden is rock solid.
18 churches, I visit them all, services Sunday morning/ evening, many during the week at all different times. Many coffee mornings if you want to start casually. But if you really want to 'rock' the Living Word would be trendiest for young people. They're holding membership classes on Tuesday night and Prayer group on Wednesday. 10am Sunday for loud worship. Eastwood Road. Check out their web site and e mail Chris, Pete's away this week. Cool, Paul. |

Thanks for the advice Paul, but unfortunately im not religious (although a great appreciation for those who are), or that would have been the first places I would have started.
I have joined a netball club in hastings and a choir in bexhill, but still not met anyone my age yet. Im glad you are in the same boat though Simon its good to see Im not the only one! not good that youve not been able to find the niche for us young adults! Im sure there must be a popular place but Im struggling to find it! Im from a large village in Dorset and I am sure that any newcomers there would have the same problem as I do here since most people know each other through either work or school. but it does not help my situation any - hopefully one day it will get easier. |

I'm also irreligious, so I'm not sure the social gatherings at the churches would be right for me either. I wouldn't absolutely rule it out though, so it's nice of you to inform us on that, Paul.
I've not explored many of the pubs in Bexhill either. The ones I have been in also do lack younger people (it appears), but at least the atmospheres seem friendly enough. Traffers Bar (on the corner of Egerton Park, closest to the seafront) is not too bad, and they have a "happy hour" every Thursday from 5pm-8pm. I think it's something like 40p off all pints – not much of a reduction compared to what one might expect from a typical "happy hour", but it's still an incentive nonetheless. I've been in The Harp (on Devonshire Road) also. It seems a reasonable pub, relatively quiet, meaning it's fine enough if you're looking for a drink and to relax at the same time. I may have to have a look in the Devonshire Arms and Bar One at some point. Bar One appears like it would attract a younger demographic, at least. Eastbourne and Hastings would seem the places to go for if you're into the clubbing scene, however. I can't give any personal recommendations, since I've given up with the clubbing scene since dropping out of university. |

| Why don't you guys meet up together and start something yourselves for the 20-30 age group who don't want more than to get drunk and fall over? There are plenty of cafes etc in town that you could use as a start-up meeting place, and then when you build up membership you could hire a venue or organise a specific programme of events (trips, bike rides, visits to the theatre, quiz nights, bands, dinner parties, debates, charity activities...) I'm a bit old to join - otherwise I would come along too - but I see what you are getting at. Good luck! |

Thank you MJW, that's an excellent suggestion.
I can't say I know the opening times of many of the social places of Bexhill, but I'm sure some of the pubs – quiet ones included – would be open in the evenings! Thus I'm thinking one of them would be a good idea. I'll stay on the lookout for cafés that may be open in the evening, though. If anyone else knows of any, please feel free to share. Thanks for the e-mail address Holly, I'll certainly get in touch (mine is lord.quiff@googlemail.com, just so you can recognise it and not think "spam"!). It would be great to know someone my age that I could meet on a social basis, especially if there are some common interests to share. (You can tell I'm a night owl with the time that I posted this!) |

| Hi there, just read your messages - we run salsa classes on a Monday at the Azur in St Leonards - have you considered dance classes? We're a very friendly bunch, and we have people of all ages there - have a look at our website http://www.salsaloco.co.uk - we run 5 week beginners courses, and our next one starts on July 12th. Good luck with your search! |

| I'm 23, I have lived in Bexhill since I was 12, I loved it at first, moving from London I loved the beach and stuff as a kid, and I still do, during the summer its the best thing to do, have a barbeque and mess around on the beach with your mates, but yeah there's not much else to do in Bexhill unfortunately, If you want nightlife, your best bet is to go to Brighton, or London, I am into the alternative style of life too, liking heavy music and stuff I have a particular struggle around here, but I do like to go to some old lady things like jumble sales rummerging for bargains so it not a total loss. |
