Can anyone recall a lovely hotel in its own grounds in Bexhill called Hurchington Manor Hotel? My parents and I visited this lovely place in the late 1960s and I am reminscing but sadly cannot find the hotel which has probably become individual houses! It stood in a very large garden and was an old house. There were newer, select houses within walking distance. I am interested from the point of view of remembering fond memories of my past. Thank you to anyone who can remember and up-date me.

Hi Roslyn,
I had a look in the 1974 Kelly's Directory and Hurchington Manor Hotel was a private hotel at 32 Little Common Road. You can have a look at Google Streetview to see if it rings any bells. The person living there was E R Howard.

Roslyn/ Jude,
Some of the local Estate Agents refer to the Hurchington Manor Estate area as being on the North side of Little Common Road (around Duke Street area).
There are still some large properties on the North side of Little Common Road, but back around Duke Street/ Riders bolt (refer to Google Maps).

To Jude and Cary - Thank you for your replies and trouble to which you have undoubtedly gone. Of course it was Little Common Road! It sounds as if the house and grounds have become Hurchington Manor Estate. I shall be sorry if that is the case but I will now check. Thank you once again.

Hello Roslyn,
I think the hotel you're thinking of is now the house that I live in!
The house is called Hurchington Manor and is a lovely place to live.
I know that the house used to be a hotel and it is really nice to read that you have such fond memories of it.

When I was in my teens I had a weekend job at this hotel, washing up in the kitchen!
It was a lovely place to work, I think the owners were Mrs Bird and Mrs Pitt?

Dear Sarah
Thank you for your reply. I am sorry it has taken me so long to return to you and your good news for me. I lost my husband 4 days after your reply, he had only been ill for 3 weeks, so I was not on the internet checking replies.
I would so love to hear from you and have a picture of the house as you have it today.
Thank you so much.
Roslyn

Sarah :
I remember the hotel had some back stairs, which fascinated me when I was 15!, and these lead to a bedroom immediately opposite them, a bedroom overlooking a garden, in which I once slept. The "honeymoon suite" was a room at the right of a few steps up or down on another floor I think.
I loved the aged oak tree in the grounds and have a photograph taken in the grounds of the hotel.
The drawing room had gorgeous picture and French windows.
My memories are of peace and quiet and country charm.

I looked up Hurchington Farm because I found a great uncle of mine, William Holter who worked there as a cowman in 1911. He then was in the Royal Sussex Regiment in the first world war.
I was surprised to see that it was a Hotel. If I can I will have a look at it some time

Hi everyone,
My parents owned Hurchington Manor hotel from 1965 to (I think) 4 September 1968.
I was reminiscing about the place with my mother yesterday and did a search for the hotel on Google and this thread came up at the top of the results. Sorry for joining in so late!
Is anyone still interested? If so, although I was very young at the time (I was 11 when we left, I have some vivid memories of the place - as does my mother.

Remember the hotel well. It was owned by the Birds & Pitts and my wife Rosemary worked there at various functions particularly wedding receptions, indeed we had our own reception there in Sept. 1969. Lovely place and two lovely couples (Anthony Bird (son) owned the music shop in Sackville road for many years - hope this is of some belated interest.
