Seafront Shelters

posted by Laura on 05 Oct 2010 at 12:33 pm

Having reviewed the pictures now posted on the next wave website, I am concerned that the proposed seafront shelters fail to comply with conditions the council imposed upon themselves. The shelter does not provide shelter (there is a hole in the roof!) it does not increase the amount of seating, nor does it provide suitable seating for people with disabilities. The RIBA design competition stipulated that the shelter had to be fit for purpose, and clearly the current proposal is not. I'm not fussed what the shelter looks like, so long as it is functional, and unfortunately the proposal simply isn't functional. I have already contacted the local council with my objections, but would be interested in joining any action groups any of you have running, please let me know.
