Cooden Beach

I live in New Zealand, and passed through Cooden Beach by rail in 2005.
Iam interested in the origin of the name "Cooden Beach" - to me it has an Australian twang - am I correct in thinking it has a connection of some sort with that country? Maybe from the second world war?
