Good to hear from you Dave Logsdail. Yes, Trevor and I were houseparents at Winceby from 1980 to 1984 when we transferred to Woolverstone House School in Ipswich where we worked until the school closure in 1990. Hope you and Sue are doing well. I remember John Woolf well, and his wife Margaret and John's secretary was Gwen. Colin Towers the bursar had a dog, can't remember its name, a big greyhound. There as another houseparent, Anthony (can't remember his surname). Regards, Linda.

Hi Dave, good to hear from you too. We moved to Lincolnshire after Ipswich where we still live. My son and daughter live near me and we run a family business. You can find me on Linkedin. I'm sorry to hear you and Sue are no longer together but all the best to you and your daughter Hannah. I am planning a trip to Eastbourne and to go down memory lane as Trev and I used to drive down there and to Brighton, etc. I did my two year college course at Hastings college whilst at Winceby. I planned on visiting the old school but see from the posts above that it closed and was demolished and houses built there, so I will just leave memories where they are. Take care and all the best to you.

Been feeling like reminiscing about the old days a bit - could not find much on Facebook, but google turned up these pages.

Anyone remember me? At Winceby from 1977 - 83, and did the Bexhill High School thing for three years - "the Downs Boys". Been reading some of the names up here - remember lots of them - would love to get in touch with you guys.

Yes - the house-parents and teachers too. I remember some other names like
Mike Rosner (and his lovely wife who taught piano) he used to keep our bikes running. Bill "Billion" Knight
Bill Earl, the gardener / Mr. Fixit
Anthony (forgot surname also)
Patrick / Paddy - top man, yes, really funny chap
Marilyn,
Bromwyn,
Margaret Greenwood
Trevor (Stan I called him), Linda and the kids.
Dave Logsdail
Peter Lawrence

Many other names if I could take the time.

I'd give anything to go back and turn back the clock. There was a fair bit of grief going on at times, but we had some really good times.

Anyone who wants to mail me please get in touch. I'd love to share some memories.

How are all you guys doing? I was Philip Naboya before I changed my name to Moses Philips. Went down a bit of a dodgy road & after getting some sense decided a name change would help me put away the past. Michael Fevirr, I remember you, it was cool having to go back to London in the school minibus after that storm. It was Mr Davis that drove. It was Lorien Bentley that got his Mae West life jacket caught up in the propeller of the speedboat when he fell out of it. He was sitting in front. We were canoeing back from Eastbourne that day Mr Sayers (Action Man) somehow managed to get him free of the life jacket, bring him to shore & gave him mouth to mouth. I did visit him for a while when he was in hospital, but the guy was a vegetable. Robert Webster, Darren Rose, Roy Denard, Graham Tudor. Man! Marco how are you dude? Did you still get to play for QPR? I remember the olders too, Darren Charles with his afro & the 1st to rock Nike Vandals, Diego DiRosa.... Feel free to email me - m.philips1204@gmail.com

Nice to hear all those memories. I am one of Mr and Mrs Woolf's sons, and I remember many of you from Winceby days. Dad died in 1996 but Mum is still with us in Scotland, although she doesn't recognize anyone now. She was so fond of you all and never stopped talking about funny things that happened back then. They would be dead chuffed to hear how much the place still means to you all.

Hi again,
Not sure where to find you. I have added messenger to Facebook but doesn't seem to be there.
Your memory is good yes blue and white Suzuki 250 hussler.
It is I agree difficult to say a lot on here being an open chat and it wouldn't be fair to talk of others.
I await to see if we can resolve contact methods.

A while ago on this thread boys were asking about photographs of the school.
There is an Ariel shot taken in the 1970s of the school from the sea side. It is still available from Skyviews archive. They are quite expensive being £69 for the smallest available size.

Hello. I hope this group is still going. I was searching for anyone that knew my step-brother, Lorian Bentley. I cant pretend to know much about him as he had the boat accident 6 months after I met him, but I wanted to find out more about him. I remember he was good at drawing, and was a bit silly, but that's all. His mum is still alive, and has never gotten over what happened. For those that do not know, Lorian spent 27 years in a comatose state, he died eventually of pneumonia. 27 years to never wake up. I was hoping anyone here could share some stories of him, good or bad, or any photos, so that I can pass them to his mum.

I Hope Everyone Is Well.

We're as my first boarding school called bylands they just wanted to control you you didn't really have a say kept running away from school. Kept getting Court. Head teacher decided the school was getting fed up with getting role call so he made me go to playing field and said to the hole school they could beat me up I was only 10 years old .they beat the shit out of me . But then I was lucky to go to winceby house we're I met the nicest Teachers. But my trust was gone .which I wish it never .as they was such good Teachers . And climbing the 50 foot tree I would of made it but mark Collins was above me and decided to pee all over me i just couldn't believe what he done yes he had a good laugh I still have a good head of hair I wonder if that was the magic potion for hair growth 😄

Summer Of ‘69

Hi Guys, I was at Winceby House between 1969 -1973. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Alan Addis? Upon us both leaving the school the pair of us used to visit rock venues together and had fun nights out at clubs etc but I selfishly moved on leaving him behind. Would appreciate it if anyone could help. Many thanks 🙂

Winceby House was good grounding for me as I was going totally wayward and needed some form of direction. I enjoyed my time there and what the school had to offer ie the the teaching available sports that were on offer fellow students and friendship etc.
Standouts for me were subjects that I enjoyed, the tennis, cricket and football, music with Alan Addis, covered in mud with intense winter one v one football with Anthony Bennett and discussions on various topics with Nolly Ogadenbe
Asthma was a problem for me on occasions and staff back then need to be commended for their care. I also enjoyed the various dance parties we all had with the Downs School and Pine End,oh the romance of it all! On a sour note Andy Portch is right the headmaster was a bully on a positive note I really enjoyed Winceby House Boarding School and everyone that was there during my tenure. Many thanks to all. 🙂

I'm Mark O' Sullivan.
I So miss some of you be you staff or pupils.
I remember staff like Colin the bursar , Andy Gibbs and Gill and Bill knight and Mrs Macalone Mr and Mrs Wolfe Pete Lawrence Linda Mr Gordon Bronwyn Denise and my favourite Pat Kirby who sold us mars bars on the cheap 😂🤣
Pupils I remember are Sean Cox AKa Sean Wynn Jason Burke. Lee Healy Tyrone king Chris Hunt David Watts Michael Reid (bumba) Frank Dardis Simon Flint Barry White Gary Bendell Paul Wedderburn Colin Ricardo and more. I know a lot of you Winceby boys are doing well and I knew you would. If was a billionaire I'd have that private estate that is in place of our old school knocked down and our old school put back.
Our school had real history. It was an army barracks once and after that an all girls boarding school. I've spoken to some of those old girls and they were so lovely to me. We were not mal adjusted boys. We just refused to conform.

There should be something that pokes us if this notice baird is to bring us together. We check it so infrequently and we have no way of being notified of new posts on here.. no organised reunions? How is that when you are a massive part of our School? Dave Logdaid I remember I used to go jogging with you. How are you now? I remember when I was in room for with a few other lads and you was next door with your wife and new born baby girl. You used to say "she's alright when you are all being noisy but when you go quiet she starts to cry," 🤣😂 sorry about that. How is she now? She must be in her 30s ❤️

Hymn 39
Oh jesus I have promised
to serve thy to the end
be though for ever near me
my master and my friend
I shall not fear the battle
If thou art by my side
not wander from the pathway
If thou wilt be my guide
Oh let me hear thee speaking in accents clear and still
above the storms of passion
the murmurs of self will
Oh speak to reassure me
to hasten or control
Oh speak and make me listen
thou guardian of my soul.
I hope that was was enough to jog your memory because I remember how you sang it so loudly and proudly
Our school hymn.
