I was amazed to ask in a local well known quality butchers and be told that their meat is Halal.

It is not a pleasant way for the animals concerned to be butchered. I won't go into details as it wouldn't be pleasant on here. If this is disputed I can provide details via private message.

the total population of Muslims within the UK is approximately 2.8 % (around 1.6 million people) and it would seem to be far lower in Bexhill.

so why is meat sold in Bexhill to non-Muslims Hallal ?

The reason seems to be a decree from the Islamic Council stating that meat for Muslim consumption MUST have been ritually slaughtered /butchered in a totally Hallal producing abattoir. Otherwise they feel that the meat is contaminated by UK legislation produced meat.

So a very small minority is affecting what meat we buy and eat without us knowing.

Did you know this ? Meat suppliers are doing this surreptitiously and when questioned about it try not to answer. I had to ask on several occasions at this butchers before the owner confirmed that he sells Halal meat. There is no sign saying that this is the case in his shop.

If you want UK produced and sold meat to be following more humane standards and not ritual slaughter where the animal isn't always stunned then ask where you buy your meat and please don't shop there if it's Halal.

Islam Majority.

It is estimated that in 20 - 30 years there will be a Muslim majority in the United Kingdom and most of Europe. This is will be a Muslim country. This is easy to see from the figures. Although 55% in the last census called themselves Christian, only 5% go to church each week. The Muslim community as a whole is now 5% with roughly 50% going to Muslim meeting every week. Birth rates are about double in the Muslim community to Christian, and the majority of church goers are elderly, whereas Muslims younger families. Add to this the conversion rate of 40,000-100,000 a year and it probably will happen much quicker.

Pixie, sorry for not answering sooner. I shop in Sidley High Street. I do not buy Hallal meat and ask wherever I go.

Paul, the growth of islam isn't the issue and really doesn't worry me with those that don't consider non believers to be 'infidels'. It is about animal welfare.

Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

May I tell all of you; that Halah meat is more just than non Halah meat. Firstly, you have to treat the animals fairly and justly: you see not only do you kill the animal differently; but we have to treat the animal fairly and justly. Example; you are not allowed to even sharpen your knife in front of the animal, you cant even kill another animal insight if the animals view.

Secondly, you cut certain vains in the animals throat of which they will not feel the pain nor have continuous pain; because of these detain vains the animal does not send hormones around the body. This is why there is less blood in Halah meat.

Let's all be honest now... if you're raised a muslim and taught from a young age that halal meat is approved by the all powerful creator of the universe (this same omniscient creator who takes a petty interest in womens clothing, and loves to see dozens of men tossed from rooftops for being gay) then of course you'll believe that this is the correct way to do things. However we slaughter animals it's difficult to be sure about how much or little it "knows" about it's last moments before becoming a burger. Does the stun gun really hurt any less than having your throat cut?

There are many variables regarding animal welfare but I've seen no evidence that halal is any better or worse on average than non halal.

On a plus side, there's lots of meat that's sold as halal which isn't, so hopefully this butchers has been conned by someone pretending to do things in the halal way.

Please look up "the religion of peace" if anyone is curious about why I am very much anti islam (NB that's a complete and utter opposition to the religion, not the innocent victims / believers)

When people google your good doctor Zakir Naik, they will find lots of evidence that he doesn't have the slightest idea what he's talking about. Just becuase your brain is easily fooled by a phrase like "stopping hormones from going around the body" doesn't mean anything to someone who understands basic biology. "Hormones" is too general a term to be useful. Here's a fun quote from your favourite doctor...
"If Almighty God wanted us to have only vegetables then why did He give us a digestive system that can digest both vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food?”
By your good doctors logic we should all eat human flesh and blood, as well as our own faeces. Of course I understand why you like this doctor... because he agrees with something you were taught by people who loved you.

But his views are complete and utter nonsense... Of course the murder of innocent people in Nice is directly related to the level of my anger at the idea of being surrepticiously fed muslim meat
