Family History - St Marys Terrace

posted by nigel humphreys on 03 Oct 2006 at 10:27 am

I am looking for a St Marys Terrace in either Bexhill or Sidley. This address has appeared on a 1918 birth certificate I have recently found whilst tracing my family history.
Any help would be appreciated.

St Marys Terrace is where I lived as a child and is in Hastings not Bexhill. It is in an area called The West Hill. Hope this helps.

St Mary's Terrace

If the birth certificate said Bexhill then it would not be St Mary's Terrace in Hastings. It is more likely to be St Mary's Cottages jin Ninfield Road, Sidley. It is a terrace of 12 small cottages that were built for brick workers over 100 years ago. There used to be a brickyard up behind them in the early 1900s.

My mother remembers living with her mother in a large house, run partly as a hotel & partly as a nursing home, which was severely damaged following a chimney fire in the kitchens- she thinks the name of the property was Beechmount or Beechfield-does anyone have any memories of this or any idea where I could research the event? I am trying to piece together my mother's family history and any help would be much appreciated.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Gillian Necklen -last thought to be living in or near to St. Mary's Terrace , Hastings?
I could be a long lost relative of hers.

St Mary In The Castle School

I am trying to trace the above Hastings school, which I believe closed just before the First World War. And if anyone has any information about a George Winchcombe, who I think was connected in some way with the school, that would be a bonus.

Many thanks.
