Where Does "Egerton" come From?

The Friends of Egerton Park are supporting RDC in a Heritage Lottery bid to re-generate Egerton Park. I have often wondered why the park has this name. There are very famous Egertons in Lancashire - The Duke of Bridgewater "Canal Duke" was an Egerton, and also Tatton Park in Cheshire. Is there any conection with our park I wonder?
