John Carr worked at Bexhill hospital with my Dad. He also sang at my Dads Service at St. Peters and had a fabulous voice as did my dad. He was a very special man.

I used to sing in the Choir at St Peter's with John Carr, he was a very fine singer and I am sorry to hear he has died.

He wasn't always with us as he toured quite a bit as a professional opera singer.

We are talking late 60's early 70's, Canon Townroe was the Rector and Jonathan Martyn was the Organist and Choirmaster. We had a very good choir back then and we regularly toured and sang in some beautiful venues.

I too remember John Carr at St Peter's and in Blods. Also sang with a choral society I think at stonegate. I remember going with Jonathan Marten Carol singing on the back of a farm trailer.
St. Peter's still has a good choir and is going to sing in Durham cathedral in August and westminster Abbey on the 28th August. I remember a Michael Cook and a David Cook singing in St. Peter's chior.

yes he was with the blods and the bats, and did spend some time at stonegate, and as you know tractor trailers are the preferred means of transport, i suspect the powers that be would frown on that now. round trips to all the local pubs at christmas comes to mind :-), interesting times for sure, I also sang at st peters choir on sundays, but was not very good, that was in the 70's ,

Spelling

Hi, I'm pretty sure all the posts here are spelling John's surname wrong. It should be Kerr and have just looked it up on line and so am as near to 100% certain as well as having a cassette with this spelling. I have fond memories of the chance I got to sing with John Kerr at St Peters Church in 1987 in Creation and still have the cassettes to prove it!! He was a great character and very understanding towards a novice singer as I was then.

John Kerr and his wife sang duets at Finchcocks Historical Keyboard Museum at Goudhurst, Kent on their Open Days. His wife still volunteers there on the Open Days.
It's a wonderful place to visit.

John changed his surname from Carr to Kerr the keep the sound of the surname similar after his second marriage to a lady called Christine in about 1983. She did not wish to carry the surname Carr and so a compromise was reached between them. Yes you are right that his partner (not Christine) still sings at Finchcocks but John died in 2004.
