Sandown School
Hello. Like Peter Gilbertson 16 November, 2010, I was wondering what happened to dear old Sandown School.
I attended from 1943 to 1946 and remember Annabel Radmore and I used to partner Diana Hanks.in the school dancing lessons. Diana would have to be in hr eighties now. I am 81. Incidentally, one of the students at my time there was Malcolm Baird, the son of John Logie Baird, the inventor of television. I can remember Malcolm but he was a year or two older than me I think. I have a couple of school photos of that era, if any one is interested.
During the war the school was evacuated to Bude in north Cornwall. The school occupied an old hotel on the cliff top overlooking the mouth of the Bude canal.
At my time at Sandown, the head master was Stanley Sulman - a dab hand with the cane. Talking in the dormitory after lights out was a caning offence after the third warning. Regrettably, I had a couple of lads who just could not stop talking and our dorm was at the head master's study door on many occasions.
I am currently writing my history and would love a photo of Sandown at Bexhill and the address of the school.if anyone can help. I have a photo of the school in Bude if anyone would like a copy.
