Rumseys In Bexhill

posted by Isobel on 04 Oct 2020 at 8:20 am

I am looking for information about the Rumsey family living in Sandhurst Lane, Little Common. Our family camped on their land in 1952 and I was hoping to make contact with the family if any are still in the area. There were three names mentioned Fred, martha & lassie. Any ideas anyone? Many thanks.

My parents were friends of the Rumsey’s and we used to walk to where they lived on a Sunday, Martha used to work at a cake shop in Bexhill town square, I worked with Alfie Ramsey in construction many years ago but we left Bexhill in1975, so not much help.

Quite by chance met up with the used cooking oil truck owned and operated by Rumseys, in Seaford about a year ago. We chatted about Little Common and people we knew etc They still live in Sandhurst Lane!

Mr Oliver, thanks for a Rumsey update, Fred, my Dad and Gypsy Smith were Old Pelham patrons, probably way before your time, are you a Sidley Oliver?

David - sorry about the slight delay! We were a Little Common family and Sand hurst Lane area and the rest of the marsh was our playground area! Did you ever know Les Cheese - known as 'Frimp: used to play with old motors and had a small yard in the lane?
