New Development At Helensburgh Court

posted by Cary Sumpter on 09 Jul 2009 at 10:49 am

Flats in the new development at Helensburgh Court are being marketed by the Developer (Laing Homes) as having a 150 year Lease. However, when contracts are being issued for Contract Exchange, unbelievably the period is being reduced to 125 years (non-negotiable).

Is anybody else experiencing similar issues when trying to purchase these properties?

Sorry, for clarity, Helensburgh Court is on the site of Egerton Place, opposite Bexhill Station (on the corner of Station Road and Sea Road)

Cary, wouldn't that be against the Trade Descriptions Act? Might be worth contacting Trading Standards.

Jude, I had not thought about that, but it's a very good point. I will give the local office a call for their view/ input. Interestingly, the Developer has been very quick to agree to refund our legal costs, although we still have the disappointment of losing the property. I am also concerned that others may not realise until it's too late. Amazingly, it would appear that nobody who has bought property in the first block (Baird Court) has realised or questioned this issue. Thanks..much appreciated.
